When Tracey’s mother, Bette, was a child she always liked to eat the tops of cupcakes and let the rest of the cake go to waste. Bette’s grandmother, Momma, wasn’t too happy about her cake going to waste, so when she made cupcakes for Bette she turned them upside-down and iced them all around. Bette couldn’t pop the icing-covered top off of the cupcakes anymore, and she never wasted Momma’s delicious cake again. As an added bonus, Momma noticed that icing the cakes all around kept them deliciously moist, and soon she was icing all of her cupcakes upside-down.

Upcakes are sold individually, by the half dozen, or by the dozen. They are baked fresh every day in our in-house bakery. To make sure we don’t run out, if you would like more than two dozen please provide 24-hour notice. If you would like special decorations on your cakes, please contact us for a quote.

About our icings

The icing that we make for our Upcakes is an American buttercream. The ingredients for our icings are confectioner’s sugar, butter, salt, and the flavor ingredients, like, for example, lemon juice and zest for lemon icing. We don’t use any artificial flavorings, thickeners, or hydrogenated oils. The traditional recipe for American buttercream uses sugar to keep from being runny, which means that our icings are sweet, just the way dessert should be.
