Dixie Picnic

Fall Happenings at Dixie Picnic

Fall Restaurant Hours and Upcoming Holiday Offerings

When the weather changes and the shore crowds thin out, Dixie Picnic consolidates its hours of operations to give you only the freshest food possible. We will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through the month of October. The fall beach is stunning and it’s the perfect time to see the migrating birds that travel through the Jersey Cape. The Ocean waters keep the days a little warmer at this time of year, and often Ocean City can have some surprisingly beautiful days in September and October.

Watch For New Items In Our Online Store

By Popular Request – Dixie Picnic Homefries Spice!

It doesn’t surprise us that one of our most popular breakfast items is our homefries. Made with our special blend of spices, everyone notices the difference and we’ve made a lot of homefry fans in the last two years. We know a lot of our loyal customers live a ways away from Ocean City so they just can’t make it in for breakfast as often as they like so for the first time we’re offering a blend of our Dixie Homefry spices for use at home. Not only will they delight that fan of our breakfast potatoes, but it’ll be a great early stocking stuffer to remind someone of some of their favorite summer food!

Fido Needs Some Dixie Treats Too!

All natural Dog biscuits baked by hand in our kitchen using the drippings from the people food that you love. You can choose from Chicken, Turkey or Pork flavors. Never worry about what sort of cast off food your dog might be eating from a foreign country! We watch our bones made every step of the way!

UPCAKES IN THE NEWS

Upcakes have beene shaking up the airwaves and the printed page. In April we were mentioned in New Jersey Monthly in the "Best of Jersey" feature in the "Best of Jersey Food" category. The June issue of South Jersey Magazine honored us in their 2008 "Best of the Shore" article, naming Upcakes the "Best New Junk Food Trend." Well, we never thought of our Upcakes as junk food, being made with all natural ingredients and fresh every day, but it sure sounded like they loved the way Upcakes tasted, so we'll take it as a compliment.

Philly Style Magazine conducted a full photo shoot to showcase our Upcakes in high style for their article on "25 Tastes of Summer." Our little cakes looked mighty fine if we do say so ourselves. Be sure to pick up the July issue of Philly Style to see the full article.

The NBC10 (WCAU-TV) 10! Show featured Upcakes on a segment with guest Jen Miller of Down The Shore With Jen, and author of "The Jersey Shore, Atlantic City to Cape May." Jen talked about classic shore foods, and included Upcakes as the "new classic." Bill Henley commented that he thought Upcakes would be around for "hundreds of years." WOW! Wouldn't that be something! You can view the full segment here.

Key Lime Pie, Banana Pudding, Ice Creams, Gelatos, Sorbets, and Upcakes!

Desserts are waiting at Dixie Picnic. Counting calories can be depressing, but the great Aunts had a philosophy that some foods were worth the eatin' and some just were not. We've got all sorts of food worth the calories. After all, life just isn't all rice cakes and arugala! A little of the sweet stuff puts a smile on your face and gives you time to spend with family and friends saying "mm...mm...mm.....mm....mmmmm............this is the BEST (fill in the blank) I've tasted since Grandmom made it". Then just walk off those calories on our beautiful boardwalk!

ORDER BOX LUNCHES IN ADVANCE! 15 minute parking available for pick-ups! We know better than anyone about the "parking wars" that go on around downtown Ocean City in the summer. Some of you have even met our next door neighbor the parking lot stormtrooper (sorry folks....its not our lot and if you just laugh at the grumpy man next door you'll get under his skin more than arguing back!) We recommend that to save yourself some trouble order your box lunches in advance, park in our 15 minute spot in front of Dixie PIcnic and run on in to pick up your lunches. Great for that day when you just need to feel like its a vacation day from the kitchen as well.

UPCAKES, TOO! .

Do you have an Upcake flavor you'd like to suggest? Some of our best suggestions for Upcake flavors have come from our customers. If you think you have a winning flavor let us know! If we can create it, we'll ask you to help us judge the final product. Email us at dixiepicnic@comcast.net with your suggestion.

Thank you for everyone who made our King of Prussia Kiosk an overwhelming success! Our Christmas season was made merrier by all the new friends and fans we made while running our kiosk at the King of Prussia Mall in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Between our new loyal customers and the mail employees that we came to know and love, it was tough for us to say goodbye to everyone when we closed! So to one and all who made it so rewarding we would like to say Thank you and keep in touch!

Why are Dixie Picnic Ice Cream, sorbets and Gelatos so different? These frozen treats originally were crafted by hand using eggs, cream, milk, and natural flavorings. Now some folks will buy a commercial mix that has all sorts of artificial stabilizers and flavors in it , freeze it in their freezer, and tell you its homemade. Don't even think that theirs compares to Dixie Picnic's frozen desserts.

We cook all our bases in the kitchen the old fashioned way. No boxes of "mixes" or "bases" are ever found in our kitchen. Thats why our ice cream still melts into a puddle of milk and cream instead of a gummy mess that others form when they are using "stabilizers" like guar gum, locust bean gum, and carob bean gum. These stabilizers help them keep their product in the freezer long after we've decided ours is too old to sell to the public anymore.

Try our frozen desserts - right now we have watermelon sorbet, S'more's ice cream, vanilla ice cream (great for root beer floats!), coconut ice cream with chocolate coated toasted coconut, Dulce de leche ice cream, chocolate gelato, mint chocolate gelato, and lemon lime sorbet. New flavors appear suddenly and without warning, as out culinary innovations often strike at odd times of the day!
